Open Shutter to the Past: San Francisco in Pictures - Gung Hay Fat Choy (1955)

gung-hay-fat-choy-san-francisco.jpgWelcome back to Photo Friday - my little way of taking a break from San Francisco Real Estate and instead blogging about our great City’s past instead. All photos are published with permission from the San Francisco History Center and San Francisco Public Library.

Happy Friday and Gung Hay Fat Choy!

This week’s photo is from 1955 where the Queen of the Chinese New Year festival, Karen Lim, holds a card that reads “Much Prosperity” - and that is my wish for all of you, my loyal readers! Ah hell - it’s even my wish if you’re stopping by for the first time. :-)

The caption on the photo reads:

“MUCH PROSPERITY–When the year 4653 on the Chinese lunar calendar–the Year of the Lamb–is ushered in at midnight tomorrow here, Karen Lim will rule as queen of the festivities. Miss Lim, 18, a George Washington High School senior, holds a card on which Chinese figures spell out a New Year wish: ‘Much Prosperity.’”

And if you want to get out and celebrate the Year of the Rat in San Francisco, The Examiner has information on all of this year’s festivities.

Have a good weekend!
