Agents often advertise that they are able to deal with the legal aspects of the offer-to-purchase and that this is one of the reasons to use an agent. In the Toronto Star article, the author gives an example of a person using a real estate agent where things went wrong.

In ByTheOwner.com’s guide to selling privately, our 1st step in selling is to call a real estate lawyer. Real estate lawyers are required to have a university degree, law degree, and get called to the bar. This process takes about 7-8 years to complete. Real estate agents need to be 18 years or older and are required to complete 3 courses which takes about 6 months to complete.
