SOLD!
If your home has been on the market for a while and you’ve had more traffic through your house than the entire time you have owned your home, you may be wondering what is wrong with your home. Why don’t potential buyers see that your property would be perfect for them? In short, why hasn’t your house sold?
The objective is to have your home priced right and looking better than the competition. So the proper staging of your home makes the difference between it selling quickly (often at the highest price) or being the last property in the neighbourhood to sell.
Try these suggestions to help get your home ready for market and on potential buyer’s “must see” list.
Think “Curb Appeal”
What does the outside of your house say to potential buyers when they pull up? Take a picture of the front of your home as this helps you to identify potential weak points. It’s a fact that potential buyers often make up their minds in the first few minutes of seeing your property.
Enhance your home’s impression by performing small jobs like trimming the bushes, edging the lawn, painting the front door and replacing worn items like lighting, door hardware and the mailbox. All these small things add up to a lot of sparkle and say your property is well maintained.
Outdoor Furniture
If you have a front deck, consider adding some outdoor furniture or buying new pads for your existing furniture. Evoke pleasurable images of relaxing in the evening or having a chat with a neighbour.
Minimize Distractions
When potential buyers pull up what do they see? Recycling bins/garbage bins not put away? Days old newspapers piling up? Dead flowers in pots? All these things say no one loves this house. Make sure if you plant flowers you water them. Assign someone to put away the bins each week and to water the plants.
Selling your home can be a stressful experience. Following these suggestions will minimize a long selling period and help you on your way to new home. Start Packing!
