To market, to market…

I heard her breathe in deeply and then exhale these words; “Is this the same house?” The Coldwell Banker Realtor’s first experience with a professional stager left her feeling as though she might have just been pranked. Yes, same house… Same House Transformed with Staging, was my response. When putting a house on the real estate market, it is important to remember that it is a product for sale, much like the items that you would find in Dillards or Macy’s; just larger and more expensive. Now, you wouldn’t expect to find disheveled displays at Dillards and a mess at Macy’s, would you? I enjoy shopping, and using it as a metaphor for my profession has certainly helped me explain the benefits of staging. Merchants understand the value of showing or showcasing their products for sale in a way that encourages shoppers to buy. Doing so equates to increased sales. A home after staging is like a mannekin displayed on a raised floor, washed in bright lights and dressed in fine couture. It encourages people to slow down, look closely and appreciate the display. The message is clear, this is not just any ensemble! The result is usually a request from the satisfied shopper; I’ll take that in a size 7! On the other hand, the subtle message that an unstaged home sends is equally clear. The result is a buyer who says “What’s next on the list?”.
